My Secret Life as a Witch
Up until now one of the least known facts about me may be that I am a witch! That's right. In an online community revolving around the MUD (multi-user dungeon) called British Legends, I am known as Catsmiaow the Witch! I originally found the game back in 1994 or so when it had its incarnation on CompuServe, known to BLer's as CIS. A slow internet connection and my lack of development of fighting skills prevented me from progressing very far in the game. Eventually the charges went up and I left CompuServe for the horrible AOL service I still have to this day. I can't seem to get rid of it, they make you send your first born child to remove you from the bonds of AOL service. In any case, about two years ago I rediscovered the game. (Game? Oh, that's right, it is really a game). Shortly thereafter I discovered DSL and cable modem connections and I was on my journey to wizdom on British Legends. BL is also known as MUD1. It is the original multi-user dungeon. The very first one. You can find more information about the history of BL on the website of the man who wrote the program, Richard Bartle. If you click on the mitre board it takes you directly to information about the different incarnations of MUD. There is a ton of information on this site which you may or may not find interesting. It depends upon whether you're into this sort of stuff or whether you really want to see what makes me tick.
If you want to find out more about the current version of MUD, go to www.british-legends.com and you'll find a great amount of information there including how to play the game. If you've read this far, you're going to have to go try out the game now, aren't you? If you have any technical difficulties, let me know and I'll be glad to help you get started. When you're in the game look for me, Catsmiaow the Witch. I became immortal on Monday November 11, 2002 at 11:02 AM ET, after having been up all night, I assure you. My memory was actually that it was more at like 8 in the morning but the official info says otherwise. I became a permanent witch on December 27th of 2002. And in February of this year I surprised quite a few wizards by winning one match in round four of the Goatcup Tournament! Alas, I had to win two to advance but I was proud of my effort and it was a great deal of fun. The Goatcup Tournament continues through March 2003. If you're still reading this, and you have no idea what I could possibly be talking about (which is very likely) jump on the bandwagon and come join me. The saying goes "You haven't lived until you've died in British Legends." |
