Welcome to truelori.com
home of Lori Baur's website.

I'm a music therapist and medical transcriber living in NYC.
Lori at the Race for the Cure in NYC (September 2002)
I've had a lot of publicity in the last year while I've been in treatment for breast cancer. In May of 2002 at the age of 32 I was diagnosed with stage II infiltrating and invasive ductal carcinoma. I underwent chemotherapy and radiation, both of which were completed earlier this year. I'm now in the recovery and "wait and see" phase. Continuing prayers are always much appreciated!

I was only able to make it through with support from many many people, including a benefit concert that was held in Manhattan on October 5th of 2002. Plans are still underway to make "Lori's Fund" an official non-profit organization to raise money to help young women in financial need due to breast cancer.

In October of 2002 I appeared in Self Magazine in their annual breast health issue in an article about hair loss and breast cancer. The story featured two pictures of me, one bald and one in my wig, by renowned photographer Mary Ellen Mark. It was a lot of fun to be treated as a model for a day, although it was harder work than I thought! Several people have asked me if the article is still available. I don't know if Self has any back issues available and there is no information about back issues or the story on their website, but if anyone is still looking you can try their subscription department at 800-274-6111. www.self.com

The appearance in Self led to another more in-depth on my treatment in Themis magazine of my fraternity, Zeta Tau Alpha. I was very pleased with the level of detail in the article and with the inclusion of a picture of some of the women from the NYC alumnae chapter of ZTA, who have been supportive throughout this time. Zeta Tau Alpha's foundation is a proud sponsor of the survivors program of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which makes this connection very special. www.zetataualpha.org

In March of 2003 a third piece came out, this time in the Southwestern Quarterly magazine of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. I graduated from SU in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and music. I haven't seen the article as of the updating of this page but I am shouting out a "Hey Y'all" to all those SU friends who might be visiting my page for the first time!
